Our flying field is located 8 miles north of Inverurie near the village of Meikle Wartle in Aberdeenshire. We can be found by taking the B9001 from Inverurie and looking for the Meikle Wartle turnoff. The flying field is situated in a rural area with unobstructed views in all directions with Mount Bennachie providing a picturesque backdrop. There is ample car parking space for members and visitors, a picnic and BBQ area, pit area, fenced off starting area and two open runways. Click here for directions to the field.

Training and Events

IDMFC can provide training to its members for most types of model aircraft. Our aim is to ensure that the risk of damage to your model during your training is kept to a minimum and that at the end of your training you have built up the confidence to fly your model safely without endangering yourself or your fellow club members. Most of our instructors have Enhanced Disclosures and provide training free of charge to all IDMFC members. Click here for more details on training.

Throughout the year IDMFC holds various events. These events include Fun Fly's where we invite other like minded model flyers to our field, Open Days where we open our club to interested members of the public, and Safety/Training weekends when model flyers can achieve their SAA/BMFA (Scottish Aeromodellers Association / British Model Flying Association) Safety Award Certificates. We also hold some indoor events such as club meetings.

Building a model

Our club forum includes a section where club members document their latest builds. These builds cover many different types of aircraft and are the ideal way of finding out about a potential kit or to see how other modellers solve some tricky problems during the build. Most of the builds include detailed photographs of each stage of the construction and are an invaluable source of information for new club members.

Our online gallery has many photographs in several sections. You can view photographs of members models as well as photographs taken at our flying field events over the past few years. To visit the Gallery click here.
